Springboard / New Classes for 2010

Welcome to Springboard’s new STREET DANCE
HIP HOP SECTION!

We have been working with JP OMARI of STREETFUNK to prepare our syllabus to include these exciting new classes and workshops for the Springboard Dance Competition

If this style of dance is new to you, why not enter for a workshop and learn Poppin’, Lockin’. Street or Breakin’! Or join the audience to see solo and duet Freestyle Classes at Roedean, or see the Crews compete on April 11, which will be a spectacular addition, judged by leading artists from the UK Hip Hop Dance Scene, to our Dance Day at the Brighton Dome.

Choreography Class
To encourage creativity for this new class, the dance committee has decided to waiver the entry fee.

Production Class
This new class aims to broaden the scope of the Group Dance Section. The production entered must have a minimum of 20 dancers, and can be in any style (Classical or Stage). We will be looking for ‘all-round’ musical/stage performance with emphasis on dance technique.

Changes in group sizes
Please note that there are changes to the sizes of groups in this year’s Festival, to bring us in line with the All England Competition.

PERFORMANCE

This new Section aims to build confidence in performing and offers NON COMPETITIVE Workshops and Classes with outstanding musicians.

Richard Durrant
will be taking the Performance Workshops for Guitarists, String, Woodwind and Brass players.
Paul Brough will be taking Performance classes for Singers, Guitarists, String, Woodwind and Brass players.
Please look at the Syllabus to find out in more detail how these classes could benefit you or your pupils, and to find out about the Accompanist Scheme and CDs/DVDs of the performances, that are all part of this section.

CONCERTO

We are continuing to offer concerto classes but now with a major prize of £100 for performers aged 25 and under and £50 for the younger class, as well as the chance to win a performance opportunity with the Brighton Youth Orchestra.

We are again providing a Fazioli piano, and warm up facilities for instrumentalists.

PIANO

The 2010 Syllabus introduces new Non-competitive Age Group Classes for Pianists.

The section continues to offer Non-competitive Workshops, and we will again be providing a magnificent Fazioli piano for the performers.

We are again offering £100 prizes (£50 for the runners up) for the Senior and Junior Championships, and the Recital Class.

SINGING

Due to the popularity of the Staged Performance Class last year, we have expanded this section for 2010. There are now 4 classes:
14 years and under: Small Groups (2 – 6 performers)
14 years and under: Larger Groups (7 or more performers)
Any Age: Small Group (2 – 6 performers)
Any Age: Larger Group (7 or more performers)

We also have a new Gilbert & Sullivan / Light Opera Section.
Our Adjudicator, Barry Clark, is an experienced Gilbert & Sullivan artist, so this should be a good section to enter!

Workshop classes are retained for both Classical and Music Theatre Singing

The Singing Section is again providing two major performance opportunities for entrants:

Singing Jazz with the Brighton & Hove Big Band (Pop Song Classes).

Singing with the Sussex Symphony Orchestra in their Christmas Spectacular Concert (Music Theatre Final).

We have a new class in the Section for Presentation Skills:
Reading and Sharing Class for 8 – 11 years.
